Here is a letter written by a pastor friend to his congregation. It would do us all well to read this and reflect.
Be honest. God already knows the truth. Are you comfortable in your life being out of intimate fellowship with God? Are you comfortable with giving God your leftovers day after day? Are you comfortable with having idols in your life that you worship above God? Are you comfortable letting your heart's affections run after this world without much a care for the Kingdom of God? Are you comfortable desiring the things of this world more than you desire God and the things of His Kingdom? Are you comfortable with anger, lust, greed, gossip and slander being part of your life? Are you comfortable making up lies against your neighbor? Are you comfortable desiring what belongs to someone else? Are you comfortable hoping something bad happens to your neighbor? Are you comfortable wanting others to envy you?
Are you comfortable that you might show up on Sunday, once in a while, to offer your "tip" of worship to God? Are you comfortable that you claim to worship God but there's hardly any sacrifice for Him in your worship or your life? Are you comfortable living with a constant bitterness and un-forgiveness in your heart toward your neighbor? Are you comfortable chasing after your selfish dreams for this life instead of chasing after the desired will that Jesus has for your life? Are you comfortable being fearful and afraid of what other people think about you more than what God thinks about you? Are you comfortable that Jesus Christ and His Kingdom is hardly a thought ,on most any day in your life, except maybe on Sunday? Are you comfortable that you get up and go to school or work thinking you are not in the middle of a raging spiritual battle for the eternal souls of others? Are you comfortable neglecting Godly things for the sake of worldly things? Are you comfortable in your secret sins that you work very hard to hide from everyone? Are you comfortable that the way you live your life is practically no different than someone who says there is no God at all?
Are you comfortable that there's no daily effort for holiness in your life? Are you comfortable saying I have time for so many things in my life but hardly any time for God? Are you comfortable that you work with your children more in the area of sports and recreation than you ever do in the area of holiness? Are you comfortable pushing your children to sacrifice way more time and effort to be great athletes than to be great in holiness? Are you comfortable that your children know all the hollywood actors and all the singers and songs of Nashville, but they hardly know any of the great biblical characters and worship hymns of old? Are you comfortable that Jesus and His Kingdom is not the real focus of all your parenting? Are you comfortable watching movies and TV shows that are filled with all sorts of sexual immorality (anything outside of marriage between a man and a woman). Are you comfortable listening to music that speaks of drunkenness, lust, adultery, and all sorts of debauchery?
Are you comfortable that you spend so much time on Instagram, Snapchat, and Facebook and so little time in the Word of God? Are you comfortable that you give yourself so devotedly to your physical fitness while giving so little to your spiritual fitness? Are you comfortable that you are so distracted by this world from living your life for Kingdom things on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday? Have you started to believe the lie that your life is not a mission trip every day you are alive? Are you comfortable spending so much of your time living for this life while spending so little of your time living for the next?
2 Thessalonians 2:13 says: "... God chose you as the firstfruits to be saved, through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth." Brothers and sisters, the bible is clear, your progression in Godliness and Holiness (sanctification) is essential to your salvation. If you are not progressing, but regressing, then you should be shaking in your soul. If you are ever comfortable in your lack of holiness, then you are in grave spiritual danger. You may be holding on to a self perceived lie that Jesus has actually transformed your life into a daily, cross carrying, self-denying, Kingdom soldier bent on living for Christ. I believe some of you are playing games with your soul and Hell, and I'm lovingly calling you to repent of all your comfort in a lack of Godliness and Holiness in your life. Let's all set our hearts and minds on Christ and His Kingdom and run this race that He has marked out for us with endurance. It's to the praise of His Glory that we live and die.
