Today we are praying for the country of Romania.  This is the first country that Mandy and I traveled to on missions back in October 2001!  Please help us  lift up this nation to the Lord today.  You can follow the two links below to learn more about the nation and its unreached people groups.  You can watch the video below to help guide you in your prayers.

Please take time to meditate on the devotion for today as well.

Today's Devotional Thought

As we continue our look at 1 John 5:1-12 this week, we pick up in our discussion of love.  We looked at our love horizontally yesterday.  This is not only a horizontal love, but a vertical love as well.  In verse 3 John wrote, “For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.”  Loving God means having a heart that does not find his commandments burdensome.  When we love God, His commandments are a delight!  The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 40:8, “I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your Law is within my heart.”  The law isn’t written on a stone and hanging over our head any longer.  The law is written on our hearts, rising up, and out, in love for God and for others.  This is not burdensome.  It is joy!  Psalm 19:24 says, “Your testimonies also are my delight.”  That is vertical love.

John moves from discussing love, to addressing the importance of being born of God.  He writes in verse 4, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.”  This is extremely important to grasp since, the one who is born of God overcomes the world!

Take some time to look up and read John 3:1-8

Nicodemus, a Pharisee, a ruler of the Jewish people, who was sincere enough to approach Jesus privately was educated by Jesus on the mystery and importance of being born again, or born from above.  In John 3 Jesus explains that, in order to enter the Kingdom of God, we must not only be born naturally (of the water), but also supernaturally (of the Spirit).  Without being born supernaturally, born again, or born from above, we cannot see the Kingdom of God.  The one who is born of God overcomes the world!  Being born again, or born from above, happens through faith by grace as the Spirit of God blows upon our hearts and lives.  This is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith which is directly linked to being born of God.
